Futura Come back Anthony Gallery Solo Exhibition in Chicago Family Affairs. Although Futura is known for his roots in the graffiti scenes in New York City, the speech marks his first solo performance in Chicago. He has a personal connection to the city through his mother, Billie, who was born in Chicago, where Futura spent the summer throughout her childhood visiting her grandmother with a chronic illness. The exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of the mother’s death, adding a very personal dimension to the speech.
Futura reflected on Chicago’s summer in a statement, remembering that the peach shoemaker was on the porch and learning what the storage room was and the comfort of a house felt a far cry from his New York apartment. “‘Family Affairs’ shows that my journey is complete in the circle,” he said in a press statement.
The exhibition features new large-scale paintings, collages, six-panel works and works made on skateboards. Overall, these works continue to evolve as interdisciplinary artists in all areas of the art world, while weaving them with personal memories and cultural references.
