GenAI as a shopping assistant set to explode during Prime Day sales

A new report estimates that AI will be larger than ever part of the online shopping process during the sale of Amazon, which began on Tuesday morning. The annual sale of Amazon, which this year lasts four days (8-11 July), is expected to drive $ 23.8 billion in online spending through US traders, as other companies hold their own competitive sales along with the popular shopping event.

Adobe, whose e-commerce division regularly publishes rates for online shopping events such as Black Friday and others, offers a view to online business by tracking transactions online. The company’s analysis encompasses more than 1 trillion visits to US retail sites, including 100 million SKS through 18 product categories.

This year Adobe envisages that Prime Day will be the equivalent of “two black Fridays.” The $ 23.8 billion spent over the four-day period will represent 28.4% per year over a year growth and $ 9.6 billion more than the comparable period last year.

A cellphone will be a large part of this equation, accounting for more than half (52.5%) of sales, but this year generative AI will also play a role.

During the mainstay event, Adobe estimates that transit of generative AI sources will increase 3,200% per year after year. This is still a much smaller source than other channels, such as paid search and email, but Adobe believes it will continue to grow because consumers see the value of using AI to shop.

The company noted that Gen AI-powered talkboots and browsers saw an initial wave in use during the 2024 holiday season, when traffic from those sources jumped 1.300% compared to the previous year from November 1 to December 31, 2024.

The company also cited a survey of 5,000 US consumers, who indicated that people use Gen AI for research (55%of respondents), product recommendations (47%), finding offers (43%), receiving gift ideas (35%), finding unique products (35%) and creating buying lists (33%).

Of those who used Gen AI, 92% said it improves their purchase experience, and 87% said they are more inclined to use AI for larger or more complex purchases.

AI -providers capitalized this trend by integration of AI into shopping, as Google has with Gemini-enhanced product search, and Openai has with the addition of purchase functions in chatgptFor example.

Adobe’s forecast says consumers this main day will focus on discounts, and clothing has the biggest bids. Behind-school needs will also drive sales this year.
