Genesis AI launches with $105M seed funding from Eclipse, Khosla to build AI models for robots


Genesis ai, a startup that aims to build a fundamental model to operate all kinds of robots, appeared from stealing with a giant about 105 million seeds, joined by Eclipse Ventures and Khosla Ventures.

Founded last December by Zhou Xian (pictured above, left), Doctor. In Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University, and Théophile Gervet, a former researcher with the French Ai Lab Mistral, the starting wants to build a general model that will enable robots to automate a wide range of repetitive tasks, from laboratory to house service.

Large language models are trained on extensive text data, but AI models for robotics must be trained about data about the physical world. However, getting that real-world data makes an expensive and expensive effort.

To overcome this, Genesis turns to synthetic data, which it generates using proprietary physical engine, which, it says, can accurately model the physical world.

The synthetic data engine of Genesis originated from an academic project, which Xian led in collaboration with researchers from 18 universities. Several participants in this project have since joined Genesis, constituting their current staff of more than 20 researchers who specialize in robotics, machine learning and graphics.

Genesis claims that its own simulated engine allows it to develop models faster, a particular advantage over competitors that depend on Nvidia’s software.

Other companies working on developing general-purpose AI models for robots include physical intelligence that has raised 400 million dollars; and Skild AI, who was rated at $ 4 billion Earlier this year.

“It’s a great unknown: will anyone have a large model of Robotics Foundation that will generalize through tasks? That’s a bet we want to follow,” Kanu Gulati, Khosla Ventures’ partner, told Techcrunch.

“Of all the teams we have seen we like [Genesis’s] Approach to go after Robotics Foundation models, ”she added.

Genesis develops its synthetic data and builds the fundamental model through two offices, in Silicon Valley and Paris.

As the next milestone, Genesis plans to release its model to the robotic community by the end of the year.
