Google will replace Google Assistant on Android phones with twins later this year, the company announced on Friday.
Google said in a blog pad That it will update more Google Assistant users to Gemini “over the coming months.” Finally this year, an assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available from App Stores.
“Additionally, we will update tables, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches, to twins,” the company added. “We also bring a new experience powered by twins, to home devices such as speakers, screens and TVs.”
Google said it would share more details with users in the next few months, and that, until then, an assistant will continue to work on the aforementioned devices.
Google Notes it worked to improve the twin user experience before the Assistant Wind down, especially for users relying on various auxiliary functions. For example, Google has added several highly requested features to twins on Android devices, such as the ability to play music, support for timers and option to take actions directly from the user’s lock.
The move to drop an assistant in favor of twins is not surprising, especially considering that Google has launched its smartphone line Pixel 9 with Gemini as the default virtual assistant. Google notes that twins have more advanced skills than an assistant (theoretically, at least), and provides new ways of getting help and information on tools like tools like Twins live And Deep research.
