Matchroom director Eddie Hearn calls Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford a “Weird fight” Think of it as just for “a lot of money” When they may meet in September.
Hearn said the 37-year-old Crawford didn’t need to prove himself at 168 first as he was just looking to fight WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo (62 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, 39 fights). KO) for a “money” fight.
Crawford Skip the Line
In other words, it’s okay for Crawford to jump in front of contenders who have been struggling for a chance to challenge for a world title. Is it fair? No.
This is completely 100% unfair and disturbing that another 154-pound fighter is getting the opportunity to move up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for the title instead of one of the more deserving contenders.
Boxing needs a commissioner
As Tim Bradley says, boxing needs a commissioner to oversee the sport and set the rules for the sport Wire cutting machine Get an unearned opportunity to challenge for the world title in a weight class they’ve never competed in.
If there was a commissioner in charge of the sport, they would not allow Crawford to move up to 168 to compete for a world title unless he earned it by beating the top contenders in front of him.
Hearn defends ‘freak war’
“No, because this is a weird fight. He’s not going to make it to 168 pounds for his career. This is a one-off, crazy fight for big money. That’s it,” Eddie Hearn said fight hype When asked for a response to critics who say Terrence Crawford should be tested against a top super middleweight before challenging Canelo Alvarez Won three championships with 168 shots.
“After that fight, he’ll probably go back to 154. Don’t forget, believe he struggled a little bit against (Israeli) Madrimov. He struggled because Madrimov is a good fighter. He (Crawford) wasn’t 154 pounds, don’t forget. He went from 147 to 140 and before that he was 135.
“Going from 135 to 168 and winning a unified world championship. That’s going to be one of the greatest wins of all time, but you know Bud. He’s ready for the challenge. I think if he improves And a win over Canelo Alvarez at 168 would make him the best boxer of our generation.
I disagree with Hearn that Crawford doesn’t need to win the fight with Canelo by fighting 168 first. Should he win this award because is that fair to contenders like Christian Mbili, Diego Pacheco and Caleb Plant?
Seeing this phenomenon of line jumpers has become a joke in the sport. It’s hard to think of boxing as a real sport when you see boxers being allowed to move up two weight classes and instantly win a world title.
Crawford’s resume
“He’s a four-division world champion,” Hearn said of Crawford. “His performance at 140 and 147 was undisputed. I didn’t think his win at 140 was that strong. I mean, he beat everybody he had to beat. Errol Spence obviously won. And then, moving on to 154, Madrimov is a very good fighter and you can always question people’s resume, but Terrence is undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters of all time.”
Crawford was weak at 147 and 140, a set of wins that included:
Errol Spence
Jose Benavidez Jr.
David Avanesian
Jeff Horn
Sean Porter
kellbrook
Aamir Khan
Egidius Kavaliauskas
Julius Indongo
Felix Diaz
John Molina Jr.
Victor Postol
Henry Lundy
Derry Jean
Thomas Duolme
Porter, Brooke, Khan and Spence were all over the hill as Crawford fought them. They are nowhere near where they were at the peak of their careers. The only elite-level fighter in the group is Spence, and he’s not the same fighter after 2018.
That was the last year for Spence’s vintage premium editions. Crawford ended up with a destroyed version of Spence after a car accident, was out of the ring for two years and lost weight.
“His (Turkish Sheikh) success rate is very high. So, you have to think that the fight (Canelo vs. Crawford) has a good chance of happening. I think it’s one between two great men from one generation to the next. Very interesting fight. I think it’s going to be hard for Bud to make it to that high weight, but if anyone can do it, it’s probably him,” Hearn said.
Canelo is 168 years old, so awesome
There’s no way Crawford could move up 14 pounds from 154 pounds to beat Canelo at 168 pounds. This won’t happen. Crawford turns 38 in September, he’s not Floyd Mayweather Jr., and even if he was, he’d still be out of the league because Canelo isn’t 22 anymore, either. Not fighting exhausted at the age of 152. The actual weight of Mayweather and Canelo is 152 pounds.
“His movement and IQ are second to none, but when you face Canelo Alvarez it’s going to be difficult. “It’s not just 168. At night, it might be 180, 185. It’s going to be a tough job,” Hearn said of the challenge facing Crawford.
