Airport officials said the UK’s Heathrow Airport airport was closed on Friday after a fire broke out at a nearby electrical substation.

A Heathrow spokesman said: “There was a fire at a nearby electrical substation and a large number of power outages occurred throughout the airport. When firefighters responded to the incident, there was no obvious time when we could reliably restore power.”

“We expect significant disruption in the next few days and passengers should not go to the airport under any circumstances until the airport reopens,” the spokesperson said.

The airport will remain closed until Friday at least 11:59 local time.
