Minister of Defense Pete Hegseth The naval tanker named after gay rights leader Harvey Milk will be named after Medal of Honor winner Oscar V. Peterson.
He wrote on X: “We name politics from the ship.”
Milk is California’s first openly gay politician who was shot dead in San Francisco City Hall by former San Francisco supervisor Dan White. The ship was a fleet of oilers, originally named after him in 2016 under Barack Obama.

During the process, he held a third degree burn, but the move caused the ship to float. On May 11, the USS Henry rescued 123 survivors from Neosho, and Peterson died two days later in the wound.

The renaming was driven by Hegseth to remove the DEI and “wake” policy of the Ministry of Defense.

When the move was first reported earlier this month, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. Calling the move “to those who fight for everyone to pursue the American Dream.
“I hope the Navy can reconsider this serious decision as the rest of us celebrate the joy of Pride Month,” Pelosi said in a statement.
