Hiromasa Urakawa: Second Japanese boxer dies from brain damage after Tokyo incident


World Boxing Organization (WBO) says,,,,, External It mourns the death of Japanese boxer Hiromasa Urakawa, who tragically succumbed to injury in his battle with Yoji Saito.

It added: “This heartbreaking news is that Shigetoshi Kotari died of injury during a fight on the same card a few days after his death.

“We extend our deepest condolences to our family, friends and the Japanese boxing community during this extremely difficult time.”

After the event, the Japanese Boxing Council (JBC) announced the title battle for all Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) instead of 12 rounds.

Urakawa is the third high-profile boxer to die in 2025 after Irish John Cooney died in February after fighting in Belfast.
