IBF light middleweight champion Richardson Hitchins boasted on social media today, saying he proved himself to be a “Real championAfter stopping hand-picked rival George Kambosos in the eighth round last Saturday night.
Hitchens’s “Real Champion” Proposition
Hitchens (20-0, 8 kos) believes that his defeat of the top three lightweight champion Cambossus (22-4, 10 KOS) means he is proven to be One of the elites The warriors of the sport. This struggle is a hatred that should not happen.
“In boxing, they say you’re not the real champion until you defend your title #truechampion.” x.
If defeating Cambossos is a method to measure whether fighters reach elite status, it doesn’t have much to do with the sport. He is a fighter who hits fighters 1-4 recordsstill wins from a victory against Teofimo Lopez four years ago.
For Kambosos, they were selected for the title against Hitchins, which is not to say that the champion or his promoter chose him because he chose more fighters he deserves, such as Gary Antuanne Russell and Subriel Matias. Russell beat Hitchens four times in amateurs and kept telling him to go out, but was ignored by the New Yorker.
Hitchens needs to fight Russell, Mattias and Ernesto Mercado in this order to force the board to walk. If he wins one thing, he can brag about being a “real champion” and earning an elite status.
140 pound gloves are ignored
If Hitchens defeats the killer below, brags are OK:
- Gary Antuanne Russell
- Subriel Matias
- Jamaine Ortiz
- Keyshawn Davis
- Ernesto Mercado
- Oscar Duarte
- Isaac Cruz
If most of these fighters actually agreed to fight them, he would easily defeat him. I don’t think he’s going to fight them for obvious reasons. This is the problem for the fighters like Hitchins. Their promoters manipulate them to win the world championship without having to fight with people of any quality, and then once they pick up a belt, they win and call up popular fighters, they have commercial struggles.
After Hitchens defeated Cambossus, he summoned Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez. Haney no longer fights when she was 140. So if the game is played, Richardson will freeze his IBF lightweight welterweight title, while he reaches 147 paydays. If he does, the IBF should strip him of the lightweight title because it would be unfair to competitors waiting for the title in the rankings.
All sanctioned institutions should have a rule that champions cannot gain weight without giving up their titles. What if belt holders like Hitchens walk around as they please, freeze their titles and wait for them as they return?
