Some House Democratsmembers including the “squad” criticized U.S. influence and policy at a meeting in Mexico City over the weekend, and one lawmaker said she was eager to be Guatemala, not American.
The second annual National Congress brought left-wing officials from all over North and South America. Those present included Democratic lawmakers: Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ayanna Presley of Massachusetts, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania and Delia Ramirez of Illinois.
All are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

At the opening of the event, Ramirez spoke about the Trump administration’s illegal immigration crackdown and his own bloodline.
She declared in Spanish: “I am a Guatemalan before Americans.” The congresswoman also accused the United States of prioritizing “imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, competitive domination.”
On her website, Ramirez, the child of immigrant parents, said her husband was Illegal state She is the only MP “in a mixed status marriage and fighting for the rights of her husband, Boris and all-out immigration reform”.
The White House condemned Ramirez and her Democrats’ comments.
