The office has changed significantly in recent years, and if there is a person who has a seat in the front row for this transformation, it is Scott Salmirs. It serves as a CEO of ABM industries For 22 years, a 100 -year -old office management provider maintains, who according to he has the work areas of more than half of the companies in the Fortune 500.
The advent of Labor policy absolutely changed the gameAnd as a company fight to get workers Back to the office, he says that you are trying to reproduce A more relaxed atmosphere Return employees. “Examine companies how they redesign everything to make more hospitable,” he says.
That doesn’t mean turning that Office environment In a living room with large sofas or ping pong tables. Instead, companies create more privacy and invest in quality rooms.
Salmirs also had a place in the front row for the newer phenomenon of companies that reduce their workforce or withdraw the setting. That means they are looking for Fewer office spaceBut work areas that have been built in the “class-A” buildings that have been built in the past 15 years are of the most desirable places or with amenities such as on-site management, security, fitness centers and state-of-the-art design.
Companies are also constantly demanding more conference rooms and private areas where employees can receive calls or simply get peace for a few minutes. Open offices that thrive the pre-pandemic are not functional in a world in which zoom calls are, he says. Teams also want to be able to maximize their time together and they need a separate space to do this type of cooperation.
“To get people back, companies realize that they have to give people more privacy,” he says. “So we see how to convert open space into conference rooms or areas with more remote space,” says Salmirs.
After all, and maybe most obvious in today’s office world, drinks and snacks are a must. The employees are used to going to their refrigerator or their pantry to get a snack while they work from home and do not always want to leave the office to get something quickly. Office snacks are no longer considered an advantage, but rather a requirement.
“You are looking for in storage chambers and what you serve, including coffee, the snack, all the good stuff,” he says. “It is really important for the employees.”
