As great as the main characters of Star Trek: the next generation so, the supporting characters always steal the show. This includes Alexander, the brooding son of the only Klingon in Starfleet. He later appeared in STRA TREP: NE’S DEPLE SPACEbut that show effectively wastes this amazing supporting character as we see alexander as nothing more than a version of his father, worf.
Alexander became Sick
If you haven’t watched in a while Star Trek: the next generationyou may need a brief primer on the relationship (family and otherwise) between Alexander and WARF. Despite serving in Starfleet, strengthening devoted much to maintaining the Kllingon Way of Life, and he tried to raise his Son that way. Unfortunately, Alexander is a human-quarter human, and between his genetic heritage and being raised on a ship full of humans, he grew up whatever BUT Klingon. When Alexander later appeared in Deep space nineHowever, he turns out to be a klling soldier (albeit a very nervous one).
There are many reasons Star Trek Fans don’t like what happened to Alexander On Deep space nineincluding the fact that he’s now little more than a clumsy punchline and has a terrible relationship with cuts. However, my problem with this storyline is rather simple. Alexander must nothing at all became a Klingon soldier because it shows the writers stopped developing his character into something other than a version of his father.
A Disappointing Klingon
For this Tren Tren fan, Alexander’s evolution (more devolution) into a warf clone is especially disappointing because we don’t see Klingons as non-combatants. Sure, there’s the occasional scientist here and there, but we’ve always seen fighters who don’t want to die in a dignified way. Considering that something as vast as the Klingon Empire should not count other types of citizens (farmers, writers, and even writers, and even writers, is not very visible to see one of these options.
You are even kinder, Star Trek: the next generation spent a lot of time establishing that Alexander completely different from anything else. Frankly, his entire ARC leads him to be the most unique Klingon we’ve ever seen. However, after DS9, he is still a soldier who goes all out in the warrior culture of the race.
In addition, if Star Trek: Deep Space Nine If Alexander were to explore a different path, Worf’s beliefs about the Klingon way of life would be challenged in some rewarding ways. The writers drew some of the stories from the inherent tension between Worf’s Warrior Heritage and the Hippie Ethos of the Fedel Federation, and the TNGwe see that tension revolves around his relationship with his son. But in DS9, the family drama is replaced by Alexander who wants to walk in Worf’s footsteps, and while a son who wants to please his father can be realistic to take care of his father at home, the whole story reeks of potential potential.
That is possible Star Trek: Deep Space NineThe writers couldn’t think of another way to bring Alexander back… Certainly, it took a lot of creative effort (including the disturbing peace between the Klingons and the Federation) to move in an inspiring way. But speaking as a fan, I’d rather see this amazing supporting character come back than have him completely destroyed when he comes back. In addition, the child is already tied to a father who … that is punishment enough for a life, and he is stuck with terrible characteristics on the surface that are as cruel and unusual.
