When Priyanka Jain, co-founder and CEO of Vaginal Microbial Testing and Care Company, evvy, What she knows when recruiting She wants Seen in candidates.
She’s looking for “A person who goes beyond what your job title tells you to do,” she says. This could mean including listing the “interest” section of volunteering or external projects on your resume, or just stating your passion for the field through work achievements.
She also knows what she doesn’t want to see among candidates: only people who are interested in developing strategies. She said when the execution was “outside their genius area,” “it was always a little worrying.”
“Everyone has to be able to do both”
Every company needs people who can make strategies for how to improve operations and people Who executes it. But in a startup with limited staff and resources, “you don’t have the luxury of having strategic people and executives,” Jain said.
She said everyone needs to be able to “find out what the problem is, and in addition, you need to be able to get stuck in weeds, find solutions, write them yourself, and fit it into the world.”
Ultimately, when it comes to strategy and execution of startups, “everyone has to do it at the same time.”
“The level of detail that anyone can enter” can be a clue
To address whether candidates can conceive and roll up their sleeves, Jain asked them about the problems they had in the company in the past and how they solved them.
“Anyone can get into the level of detail of the process, and not just the deliverables tell you a lot about how involved they are actually,” she said. If they can explain exactly the steps needed to solve the problem, they might take those steps themselves and can do it again to solve the next company’s problem.
Another element Jain looks for in candidates’ answers is their attitude. “If they’re excited about both sides, it’s always a good sign,” she said. They will bring the enthusiasm to make things go smoothly.
