Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly injured in an attack on Iran last month.
Pezeshkian attended an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council, the Fars News Agency in Iran said near the Revolutionary Guards that on June 16, six bombs targeted access and entrance points to secret underground facilities in Tehran.
The president and others were said to have suffered leg injuries when they escaped through the emergency axis. Iran is reportedly following lead infiltration by Israeli agents.
The FARS report has not been independently verified. Israel has not yet commented on the report publicly.
Videos posted on social media during the 12-day war show repeated strikes in the mountainous areas in northwest of Tehran.
It has now emerged that the strike on the fourth day of the war was aimed at a secret underground facility in western Tehran, where Iran’s supreme leader was.
The Fars News Agency report said the Israeli strike blocked all six entrance and exit points and ventilation systems.
The power from the facility was also cut off – but Pezeshkian managed to achieve safety.
The Supreme National Security Council is the highest decision-making body after Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Last week, Pezeshkian accused Israel of trying to kill him – a claim that Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz denied that “government change” was not the goal of the war.
At the beginning of the war, Israel wiped out many of the top IRGCs and Army commanders.
Iranian leaders admitted they were totally surprised that decisions were paralyzed at least for the first 24 hours after the attack.
Israeli officials acknowledged that Ayatollah Khamenei was also a target – but when he was moved to a secure secret location, they had lost track of him and were largely out of the outside world.
There are many questions about how Israel gathers critical intelligence on the whereabouts of top Iranian officials and commanders – not to mention the location of sensitive secret facilities.
On June 13, Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran’s nuclear and military sites, saying it was to prevent Tehran from creating nuclear weapons.
Iran retaliates against Israel in air attacks – those who deny seeking to develop nuclear weapons say its abundance of uranium is a peaceful purpose.
On June 22, the U.S. Air Force and Navy launched air and missile strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
U.S. President Donald Trump later said the attack “destroyed” facilities even as some U.S. intelligence agencies took a more cautious view.
