Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson reported that Penguin Random House received more than $2 million, which published her book “Lovely People: Memoirs” in 2024.
Jackson’s financial disclosure report shows that Penguin Random House paid her $2,068,750 in advance in 2024. The company also offers reimbursement for transportation, food and accommodation to promote her book at events across the country.
The title of “Lovely People” mentions the meaning of her West African surname, which was published in early September, and Amazon has been described as “tracking her family’s confirmation from quarantine to her confirmation of the U.S. Supreme Court in a generation.”
Her book journey spans the country, stopping in major cities such as San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta.

This is not the first time Penguin Random House has paid her, as similar disclosure reports show that the company paid her $893,750 in advance in 2023, bringing the total to nearly $3 million in two years.
The Supreme Court recently adopted a formal code of ethics for accessing free travel and other gifts. However, there is currently no upper limit on how much money the justices earn from book deals.
