Fashion: What surprised you most about your parenting journey?
Jessica Slice: It has nothing to do with disability, but I remember that I was in my 20s and had a friend who was a nanny in a family who watched the kids 15 hours a week. We were chatting and we were like, “Oh my god, do they never want to see their kids? Like, when do they see their kids?” I think if you can work, you’re surprised by the intensity of care for both kids and the help they need.
How do you create a book promotional experience that suits your needs? What does this look like to you?
Oh, I like this question. Many people who release books try to travel around, conduct book events, and hold events with bookstores, and try to have face-to-face interviews with the media during the trip. When I met with the team at the beginning of all this, I described my abilities, that is: I really need to do almost everything, because for example, if I went to New York for face-to-face interviews and events, it would take me about a month to recover. I have to make a decision with the team, and it’s not a sacrifice I can make because I need to continue to be present for my family and I can’t give up a few months of my life from a trip like this.
