Jon Watts Left ‘Fantastic Four’ to Get His Groove Back

Before Matt Shakman took over direction of duties for MCU’s first Fantastic Four, film, Jon Watts commissioned. The director of the Spider-Man: Home trilogy let out in 2022And his reasons for leaving are completely valid: he had to take a very needed break.

During a recent storytelling class at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts revealed that he was essentially “out of gas” when he was wrapping up Spider-Man: No way home, which was shot in the early days of the pandemic. Following the numerous Covid protocols then and “try to do something creative while also trying to make sure that your cast and crew are all safe … it was very difficult,” he remembered. Further stress came during post -production – the supply chain of international VFX salesmen suddenly became “interrupted”, which made it difficult to “make effects in a traditional way.”

“I knew I didn’t have what it would do to do Wonderful four Great. “I was just from steam,” admitted Watts. He recommended Marvel for letting him leave, and realized that making big movies like their can be “very satisfactory, but at some point, if you can’t do it at the level you feel you need it to be great, then it’s better not to do it.” He continued to go the much smaller Wolf Starring only a handful of actors, later co -created Star Wars: Skeletal crew with Chris Ford.

Watts has every intention to see Amazing Four: First Steps When it hits on July 25, but he was honest calling it “a completely predominant experience for me to go and watch that movie.”
