This is a ring magazine card. What’s shocking about this card is that #6 Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOS) fights Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOS) in the WBC Super Middleweight Elimination Tournament to determine the mandatory nature of champion Canelo Alvarez.
Sheeraz never fought in 168 and looked terrible in a 12-round draw against WBC 160-pound champion Carlos Adames on February 22. Last September, Berlanga was beaten by a one-sided 12-round decision to beat Canelo, who will have a quick rematch with the Mexican star by beating Sheeraz. WBC Champions Eliminations should involve top five competitors, which will exclude Bellanga.
The event took place in New York City and it makes sense to bring Brooklyn native Berlanga into the headlines. In terms of talent and achievement, Berlanga should be close to the bottom as he did nothing in his career. Edgar will attract his fans.
