Summary
Swedish Brand Hem Already collaborated with ghanaian designers in the UK Kuseda Mensah Create a series of organic-shaped Poufs called “Palma”.
The work is launched next week, marking the first collaboration between HEM and London-based Mensah and is a continuation of the earlier Mutual Aid I.
Like the original collection, each piece in the Parma range gets form tips from natural shapes, such as human bodies. Conceptually, Mensah develops “mutual i” into a series of functional sculptures that will encourage interaction and connection. This idea has been a bit constant throughout her practice, which is also what she brought to the hem cooperation.
“I’m so excited to introduce the Palma series at 3DD – this is my debut at the festival, a real milestone for me as a design black woman,” she said. “This moment is where my vision committee comes to life.”
“Kusheda’s work is an instant love affair; rigorous research and a playful spirit, made for a paw-like pouf, makes us smile every time,” added Petrus Parmér, founder and CEO of the hem.
The Palma consists of three sculptural forms suitable for perch, support and tilt. Designed to accommodate multiple users, each part of the POUF can facilitate internal seating to facilitate intimacy and conversation, whether used alone or in a larger configuration.
Each comes with a range of finishes, including Kvadrat interiors, bundles and leather. The three-part series will be on display at the 3-season ceremony next week in Copenhagen and is now available on Hem.com for €799 (approximately $899).
