D-Del. Rep. Sarah McBride told the New York Times Tuesday that Democrats may have exaggerated their hands on transgender issues during the 2024 election cycle.

“I think that’s an accurate reflection of the opponent’s exaggeration in some ways – we went as a league across 201, trans 301, when people were still in trans 101 stage.”
McBride suggested that the trans movement caused a perceived cultural aggression, causing the Republicans to say, “We punish trans people because of their actions. Not: We are going to hunt down innocent bystanders.”

“And I think that some of the cultures and norms that are beginning to develop around trans people may be too early for many. We become absolutists – not only transnational rights, but people who cross progressive movements – we forget that in a democracies we have to really interact with the public, actually interact with it.
McBride argues that progressives push for every perfect policy and cultural norm to ignore public opinion.
“We decided that whether the public is ready or not, we must now fight for every perfect policy and cultural norm we are now and push for every perfect policy and cultural norm. And I think that misunderstands politicians, frankly, social movements bring people to a place while maintaining an approximation to public opinion.”
Democratic lawmakers warned the party not to go beyond public opinion and said that if they do, they will lose their grasp.

McBride continued: “And, I think a lot of the conversation about sports and some of the cultural changes we see in the expected workplace behavior. Maybe it’s a byproduct maybe it’s just going too far and actually not engaging in the art of social change.”
McBride It is “distraction”.
“I think we are all united and people trying to attack vulnerable communities are not only mean, but they are truly misleading. Republicans in Congress Talking about any vulnerable groups in this country, we have to be clear that this is a distraction attempt,” McBride said in an interview with CBS last year.
According to an interview in January 2025, lawmakers were surprised by Republicans’ efforts to prioritize trans athletes.

“I talked to colleagues and discussed many of the bills in front of us, and of course I heard from some colleagues that colleagues like me thought that this was a priority for the Republican meeting, which was the three items to go to Republicans, and that was their priority, they were their priority,” McBride said.
McBride noted in an interview with Klein that trans movements need to negotiate with public opinion and that they should not treat the public like Republican politicians.

McBride said: “When you recognize this difference, I think it allows for a pragmatic approach, which, in my opinion, is the best opportunity to divert public opinion as soon as possible. If screaming how dangerous it is, it would be one thing.
