Microsoft makes Openai’s new free and open GPT model, GPT-Oss-20BAvailable to Windows 11 users by Windows Ai FoundryThe technical giant platform that allows users to tap AI functions, APIs and popular open source models on their computers.
The company said in a Blog post GPT-OSS-20B is “ILo-wise and lightweight”, adding: “Optimized for action tasks such as code execution and tool use, it works effectively on a range of Windows hardware, with support for more devices soon.
Launched on Tuesday, Openai’s GPT-OSS-20B can work on consumer computers and laptops with at least 16GB from VRAM, which Modern GPU from Nvidia or Radeon would have. Openai said the model is trained using High computer reinforcement learningWhich helps it excel at operating AI agents and call tools, such as a web search or execution of Python code, as part of its chain thought.
However, the model is only text, meaning that it will not be able to process or generate images and headphones like the other models of the company.
The model also has a habit of hallucinating: GPT-OSS-20B hallucinated in response to 53% of questions about personqa, the inner house of Openai to measure the accuracy of a model of people’s knowledge.
Microsoft says it will bring the model to MacOS soon, as well as other devices, although the company is no longer called. Microsoft also provides both GPT-OSS-20B and older GPT-Oss-120B model with its hosted Azure AI foundation platform.
The two new models are also Available on AWS by Amazon.
