Rep. Melissa Hortman, a Democrat of Minnesota, made headlines earlier this week as it was the only democratic vote in the state legislature to vote to repeal health insurance for taxpayer-funded adult illegal immigrants.
“I know people will be hurt by this vote, and I-we’re very hard at trying to get a budget deal that doesn’t include that provision,” she said. Republicans own a house of 67-66, Democratic Peasant Party Holds Senate 34-33.
Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot dead on Saturday and were hospitalized after the surgery. Hotman’s husband also died in the shooting. All four victims are assumed to be shot dead by suspects who pretend to be police.

The Minnesota Patrol posted a photo to X on Saturday showing the “No King” sign in the suspect’s vehicle. “No King” is the name of a series of protests that took place on Saturday in an opposition to the Trump administration.

“In view of the overnight target shooting of state lawmakers, we ask the public not to participate in today’s planned demonstrations in Minnesota out of caution,” the MSP wrote.
