He told the media that Smith tried to turn it off three days before they planned to start filming the movie so he could continue writing the script.
“I think there are a lot of people who are afraid to do a big, expensive romantic comedy with their will,” Tennant admitted. “It’s full of dangers. It’s going to try to quit three days before we start filming. He wants to close and do some more. This is really crazy.”
But the director said that once they started filming “Hitchhiking”, “that was a bunch of creative people who did their best. There were some debates, but some things were so funny. You put everything in It’s really fun to keep it, you have a good movie.”
He said at some point before the shooting began, Smith approached him with a script he didn’t like.

The crew accidentally ended up sitting at the doorstep of Sarah Jessica Parker’s brown New York home, where she asked them to film scenes that were not originally in the script.
“There will be starting to say things about 90 and 10: A man walked 90% of the way and the woman made 10% of the first kiss,” Tennant said of the improvisational scene. “So, we messed up on it For a while, then someone thought of the key. Then Kevin was admiring something. It was just an idea.”

Tennant said he filmed the scene with one of the producers that afternoon, but “Will is still worried about the scene. Kevin James told him, ‘It’s really fun. It would be a good scene. “And, thank God for shooting for Kevin.
“The scene I wrote that day was 5.5 pages long. It was one of the best scenes in the movie,” he said. “We shot a 5½ page scene in three hours and then shared it with Amy Pascal Have dinner.”
Pascal was Sony’s chairman at the time.

“Will didn’t want to do that because he said the blacks didn’t cross Ellis Island,” Tennant explained. “I begged him to come to Ellis Island, so I can at least sell it. It’s me, Will, some Producer, Will’s production partner James Lassiter is his best friend. So, I’m trying to save the sequence and voila, we find James’ family walking through Ellis Island.
He said Smith was a great sport when his character accidentally kicked off the motorboat and even though Smith didn’t know how to swim, he had to jump into the water.
“The other thing that everyone is worried about is not swimming, so they don’t want to put a $20 million movie star in the water,” he said.
“We had a hard time. The movies and movies I wanted to make were going to be made – none of these movies were as good as the movies we made together. It was a fight.”
He said he did not say goodbye to him when they wrapped Smith.
“I think he feels the same way,” he said. “He thinks the movie is a disaster.” “We’re wrapped, it’s frustrating.”
But they were both wrong.

The film ended up making $371 million worldwide.
Tennant said he didn’t complain.
“I have no objection,” he stressed. “He hired me to make this movie. It’s not easy for anyone, but we’re traveling the world around the movie. Even during tough times, He always said, ‘Wait until junket. The world. We did it, and it was great.
“When it was over, my time with Will ended. That’s it. I haven’t heard from him since then.”
The Bounty Hunter director said he also had the idea of a “Hitchhiking” sequel, but found out that Smith didn’t have his own sequel to plan.
“I submitted a proposal for a sequel, which is interesting, but I think Will is developing ‘Hitch’ without my sequel,” he said. “I just found out about this three months ago. I have a sequel for the sequel. Good idea, I was talking to a Sony executive at the time and he said Will’s production company was making a sequel. Hey, that’s Hollywood.”
