U.S. President Donald Trump will deploy 2,000 National Guards in Los Angeles to deal with raids against undocumented immigrants.
“We make Los Angeles safer,” his border Tsar Tom Homan told Fox News on Saturday.
The California city experienced a second day of unrest on Saturday as a largely Latino area residents clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) federal agents. The crowds in the Paramount were dispersed on the ice with tear gas and batons.
As many as 118 arrests were conducted in Los Angeles this week due to Operation Ice, including 44 on Friday. California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the raid as “brutal.”
“In recent days, violent mobs have attacked ICE officials and federal law enforcement officers who have conducted basic deportation operations in Los Angeles, California,” the White House press release said.
“These actions are crucial to stop and reverse the entry of illegal criminals into the United States. After this violence, California’s ruthless Democratic leaders completely abandoned their responsibility to protect their citizens. That’s what President Trump signed a presidential memorandum, signing a hiring of 2,000 national health workers to resolve permitted laws to resolve permitted laws.”
Homan said in Los Angeles, where he personally oversees the ongoing ice operation: “We will bring more resources when we speak. We will bring the National Guard to the National Guard tonight. We will continue to work.”
He warned that there would be “zero tolerance” for any violence or damage to private property.
Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI, also warned protesters in a post on X: “You bring chaos and we will be handcuffed. Laws and orders will prevail.”
He said the “multiple arrests” were to “obstruct the action.”
“In California, the ongoing chaos federal sweep continues to call for arbitrary arrest quotas, as cruel as cruel, Governor Newsom said in a statement Friday.
“Donald Trump’s chaos is eroding trust, tearing families apart, and undermining workers and industries that power the U.S. economy.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass earlier accused the “sowing horror” on the ice in the second largest city in the United States.
The head of the FBI and Homeland Security said the mayor’s remarks were endangering federal agents.
Angelica Salas, who leads the Humane Migrant Rights Alliance, told a recent rally: “Our community is under attack and terrorist attacks. These are workers. These are fathers. These are mothers. This has to stop.”
The U.S. president has the right to deploy the National Guard for certain purposes, including “suppressing the rebellion.”
But in response Saturday, the governor of California said the federal government’s move to “take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers” was “purposely inflammatory” and “only escalate tensions.”
“Los Angeles authorities will have access to law enforcement assistance later,” Newsom added.
Trump hit the governor on his truth social platform, saying that if he and Bass can’t get the job done, “then the federal government will step in and resolve the problems, riots and predators, the way it should be solved!!!”
