Later Thursday, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday directing President Donald Trump to return control of the National Guard to California.
The order came into effect at noon Friday, and he said the deployment of the guards was illegal, both of which violated the Tenth Amendment and exceeded Trump’s statutory authorities.
The Trump administration appealed the decision and the decision hours later, after the 9th Circuit’s appeals court temporarily blocked the federal judge’s order.
The court said a hearing on the matter would be held on June 17.
