Rescuers are looking for American climate journalist Alec Luhn, who disappeared while hiking on a glacier in the Folgverna National Park in southwestern Norway.
According to his wife Veronika Silchenko, Luhn, who worked in multiple news outlets including the BBC, hiked from the town of Strange on July 31.
He did not show up in the return flight that brought him home on Monday, causing her to call authorities.
Rescue operations continue, although officials say they are hindered by bad weather, which prevents helicopters from flying patrols.
Rescuers are using dogs and drones to search, citing Ingeborg Thorsland, a spokesman for the Norwegian Red Cross, according to the New York Times.
His wife said he was an experienced outdoor athlete who had previously camped in bad weather.
Ms. Silchenko told BBC’s US partner CBS News.
“He likes glaciers and snow, he likes explorers,” she said, adding that as a climate journalist, he is trying to visit glaciers that have shrunk rapidly due to climate change.
“He is trying to go to the coldest country,” she said.
Mr. Roon, 38, is currently based in London but recently lived in Moscow and Istanbul, according to CNN.
He has previously covered many media outlets, including Atlantic Ocean, National Geographic, The New York Times, Scientific American, Time Magazine and CBS.
Last year, he wrote for the BBC about the “zombie” fire in Canada, which burns all year round and is believed to be increasingly common.
