The addition makes OpenVibe more useful to support your interests and other important information without having to change among multiple reporters, websites or social network programs.
The new feature also puts OpenVibe in more direct competition with other social media and content aggregates that track updates from the entire open website. These competitors include CarpetThe company’s new app, which once built a popular Twitter client known as Twitterfic; FeeeedRSS reader who supports social profiles tracking in Mastodon, YouTube and other platforms; And SurfNew Open Social App and browser from Flipboard manufacturers.
OpenVibe’s Director General Matej Svancer says RSS support has always been part of the app’s longer roadmap since its launch last year. However, the feature was heavily requested by the user base, so the team prioritized its development, he says.
To use the feature, you can choose to add RSS sources one by one, check the suggested websites of the app and tap “follow” on those you want to track, or import your entire OPML file from another news reader. After more people adopt RSS, OpenVibe will introduce a board that shows the most additional foods to help direct users to popular sources.
Once added, you can track the RSS updates in the combined home nutrition of the app, in the dedicated “RSS”, or you can add the RSS flows to your own custom.
While RSS can also be used to track podcasts and YouTube channels, OpenVibe is not yet focused on these formats, Svancer tells Techcrunch. It may be technically possible to add them to the app today, but it will not offer a good user experience, he explains – unless you don’t matter to open each item in a browser.
