Opinion SNL is for me and all other outsiders

My parents had friends and visited and threw parties, but even so, there was something about adulthood that hit me as serious when I was a child – adults spent their days the fragment “SnL” looked charming, temptingly in violation of it. If you were lucky, you might build a life around stupidity. As it turned out, and I did not do that: I am not a comedian, but as a novelist I built a life to make things and reconstructed what culture offers.

Pandemie was back in Minneapolis and eventually my family joined our television observation of the Rescue Chihuahu couch named Weenie. When we all watched an episode episode, it was shining that, besides being a child’s ceremonial idea of adulthood, it “sneaks” some other elusive and aspiration thoughts: New York’s idea for people who never lived there; the idea of having cheerful friends or collaborators instead of annoying; the idea that he can metabolize political instability into the bite of jokes instead of feeling helpless about it; The idea of charming after-art that we want to participate in when most of us really don’t want to stay so late. (Although I could only think here. My kids are now teenagers and go to sleep after I do it. But my family never followed the “Snek” live; we usually watch it on Sunday around 19:00)

Many of us feel in different levels, such as outsider – we are not beautiful or famous or funny or coastal – and “SNL” gives us access to beauty, glory, humor and New York. “Snly” both mirrors and defines all these things; Sometimes when I’m in New York, I find it New York, because I see the pictures I have seen on the show such as the statue of Prometheus outside the Rockefeller Center, 30 rock Marquee or seeming gravel of the subway. A few years ago, the editor of the tired magazine asked if it poisoned me that my publisher would put me in hotels in Midtown, where he was overloaded with tourists. With the risk of sounding as a Midwest stereotype, I never thought that Midtown could be undesirable; I still can’t believe that the publisher is true to stay in a nice hotel, and then I’m going to walk in Central Park.

As the months have passed, the pandemic still has not disappeared, and I, like many people, experienced in addition to global personal problems. I decided that the novel I try to write is too depressing and put it aside. I desperately cheered up, I started a novel on the show a lot like “SNL”

I have done a huge amount of research that was so beautiful that he didn’t feel like working, including reading almost 800 -page oral history “Live from New York” and watching the document “Saturday Night” and listening to about a million comic podcasts. At a time when I transferred a ticket to the dressing in March 2022, I was surprised by only two aspects, as he saw it personally. The first was how often two or more cast members in the same sketch were at different stages (for example, a member of the casting mayor at a press conference and the members of the cast play reporters).
