“My father went into hospice and I was at a loss for words,” Patrick’s mother, Randi Mahomesannounced through his Instagram Story on Friday, January 24.
Randi, 49, shared a throwback photo of her and her dad at an event together. He included a series of praying hands emojis. Randi also added the Bible verse Colossians 3:20, which says “Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord.”
Randi did not share any further details about her father’s current condition. Patrick has yet to speak publicly.
In September 2024, Randi shared that her father was admitted to the hospital due to a undisclosed illness. On his social media page, he asked for fans’ support through prayers.
“Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and not doing well. His name is Randy,” he wrote through X at that time.

Patrick’s grandfather’s recent update comes days before the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Buffalo Bills for the AFC Championship on Sunday, January 26. If the Chiefs win on Sunday, the team will go to Super Bowl LIX to face off against the winner of the NFC Championship Game (either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Washington Commanders,).
The Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowls the last two years. If they continue in the Big Game this year, they have the potential to make NFL history as the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
As Patrick and his teammates prepared for the playoffs, the former quarterback shared with him high expectations for himself and Travis Kelce.
“I think the greats step up in the playoffs,” Patrick said during a press conference in January. “It’s higher intensity and the best players and the best leaders to step up and make the best plays. He’s already done that and so I expect the same from him going into these playoffs .
The NFL playoffs and news of his grandfather’s condition also come nearly two weeks after Patrick and wife Brittany Mahomes welcomed their third childdaughter Golden. Brittany, 29, gave birth during the Chiefs’ bye week and brought the couple’s eldest childrendaughter Sterling, 3, and son Bronze, 2, at the Chiefs’ first playoff game.
“It’s been a special run, with everyone here in Kansas City from the organization to the community, from the team and from my family,” Patrick said at a press conference. “I’m just trying to love that. I still remember the World Series moments my dad, (Patrick Sr.), played in when I was 5 years old. So, these are the moments I will have with my family for the rest of my life.”
