Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said Tuesday that the U.S. central bank will now formulate easier monetary policies, even if not for President Donald Trump’s tariff plan.

When asked In the panel If Trump hasn’t announced a levy plan for many foreign trading partners earlier this year, if the Fed will now lower interest rates again, Powell said: “I think so.”

“In fact, when we see the scale of tariffs and basically all inflation forecasts, it’s essentially rising due to tariffs,” Powell added at the event held at the European Central Bank Forum in Portugal.
