Primark boss resigned after 16 years due to an inappropriate “behavior towards a woman”

Paul Marchant, Managing Director of Primark, resigned after an investigation of his behavior towards a woman “in a social environment”, the owner of the budget fashion chain Associated British Foods said on Monday.

His resignation, which has immediate effect, takes place after he has supervised his expansion in Europe and the United States for 16 years as CEO of Primark.

“Marchant worked together with the investigation, recognized his error in judgment and accepted that his actions fell under the standards expected by Abbey,” said the company in a statement.

“He apologized for the person concerned,” added the group.

ABF said that it would continue to offer support for the person who has made his behavior aware.

The group did not immediately provide further details if they were contacted by AFP.

“I am incredibly disappointed,” said George Weston, Managing Director of AFF, in the explanation.

He added that “our culture must be larger and is than any other person”.

In the meantime, Marchant is replaced by Eoin Tonge, the Chief Financial Officer von Füf.
