A proton manufacturer of Privateco-Focus productivity Proton on Wednesday has released its AI Assistant, called Light, which it says priorities to protect user data.
The company says the chat keeps no logs from your conversations, has an end-to-end encryption to store talks, and offers a ghost mode for conversations that disappear as soon as you close the window.

You can upload files to have the chatter answering questions about them, and if you have Proton Drive Account, you can connect it with light to access files stored in the cloud. While the chat has access to the site, it may not find the latest results if you use it to search.
Proton seems to intend to explain that its focus is on privacy. The company says light is based on open source models, and it will depend only on them for research and development forward without using using data to train their models. It also said that light depends on zero-access encryption, an encryption method that other proton products are also used, to let users store their conversation history, which can be deciphered on the device.
Through his Blog post on lightProton emphasized its European base, saying it gives the company a leg over AI companies based in the United States and China when it comes to privacy.
“Light is based on open source language models and operates from Proton’s European databases. This gives you a much greater transparency to the way light works than any other major AI assistant. Unlike Apple Intelligence and others, light is not a partnership with Openai or other US or Chinese AI companies, and your questions are never sent to some,” Proton said.
This is not the first entry of a proton in the fast-developing AI tools space: last year, it rolled AI-powered written assistant for its postal product This also works on the user’s device.
