According to Goldberg, manager James Dixon received a call from CBS executives informing him that the network would leave Colbert and “late show.”
According to Ankler, Dixon told Colbert about his decision two weeks later after recording the July 16 show. The next day, the late night host announced that he would cancel his performance to the audience.
