Roblox releases its open-source model that can create 3D objects using AI

Roblox announced On Monday, it launches the first iteration of its 3D model, called “Cuba”, to allow creators to create 3D objects by generative AI. The company also launched an open source version, so that anyone outside the platform could build it.

Announced last year at Roblox Annual Conference of DevelopersThe company questioned Cube at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) later this afternoon.

Creators will have access to Cuba later this week, which includes its first tool: generation of mesh.

Cube’s 3D Mesh generation, currently available in Beta, enables creators “loops”, or 3D representations of objects, using a single promise. For example, “generate an orange race with black stripes.” Creators can further adjust the in-game item within Roblox Studio.

The open-source version of Cube 3D allows anyone to set, create plugins or train the model with their own databases to match their needs.

Roblox also announced three more AI tools text generation, text-to-talk and speech-to-text. These skills will be launched in the coming months.

The text generation tool allows developers to add text-based AI functions to their games. This includes giving players the option to have conversations with interactive non-player characters (NPCs).

Text to speech, meanwhile, lets developers add storytelling, have NPCs talk, or include verbal descriptions in their games. Speech-to-text allows players to use voice commands, such as directing characters to move forward.

Other future plans that the company includes launching a generation of loop for more “complex” objects and a generation of scenes, explains Roblox. The tool of generation of scenes, for example, will allow creators to encourage the AI to make a full forest scene and change the green leaves on trees to fall colors to show the season changing.

As Roblox previously stated last year, the long-term goal is to have the 3D objects and scenes fully functional, which it calls “4D creation.”

“Where the fourth dimension is an interaction between objects, environments and humans,” Nick Tornow, vice president of engineering at Roblox, told Techcrunch.

As with any company researching generative AIs, Roblox believes that Cube will help creators work faster, allowing indie developers to participate in larger projects. The company has already released several AIs, including for Texture generation and avatar -making.

AI -tools in gaming are a hot theme, with several companies making progress in space. Most recently, Tencent launched his open source 3D -generation modelDesigned to generate 3D models with text promises or 2D footage.

However, the use of AI continues to raise concerns in the industry. As indicated in GDC’s recent report30% of game developers feel that a generative AI negatively affects the video game space. According to a CVL -Economic studyIt is projected that 13.4% of video game jobs could be hit or replaced by AI by 2026.
