Getty ImagesInvestigators are studying foggy conditions and technical failures at San Diego Airport, which cut off lights designed to guide pilots, which could play a role in a fatal plane crash.
Cessna 550 crashed into a residential area early Thursday, burning cars and destroying at least one home.
Authorities say all six on board were dead, including rock band The Devil Wears Prada and former drummers of high-profile music agents.
The National Transportation Safety Commission is studying various clues and says the aircraft does not have a flight data recorder, and the recorder will provide more information. Officials have not identified the factors that led to the collapse.
NTSB investigator Dan Baker said in a press conference Friday that the agency is getting help from the FBI as it is committed to collecting and retaining evidence from the field.
He said investigators found the plane hit a high-voltage power cord and then hit a house near Murphy Canyon, about two miles from the plane heading to Montgomeryfield Airport.
Baker said the airport is a small airport with three runways and encountered two separate problems in the crash. The automated surface observatory provides pilots with weather data, “ineffective due to irrelevant power surges in the event of an accident.”
At that time, fog was reported throughout the area.
Mr. Baker attributed the interruption to “some kind of technical failure,” but warned that it was not clear whether this led to the crash, as not all airports were equipped with the system.
The airport also made a notice to the pilot who called an apartment informing them that one of the runways had problems with the lighting system guiding the landing plane.
Baker said the pilot who was shot down the plane had been aiming at the runway at the time of the crash.
Mr Baker said the pilot did not report any problems to air control and never declared an emergency.
The Cessna is not equipped with a flight data recorder and officials are investigating whether it has a cockpit recorder on board.
The crash occurred around 3:45 local time (10:45 GMT), and about 100 people had to evacuate from the nearby city of San Diego.
Eight people were injured on the ground, including those taken to the hospital.
The preliminary report of the NTSB is expected to be released within 30 days and the final report will be released within the next 12 to 24 months.
The victims included 41 agents and drummers
So far, the names of six people have been released when the crash crashed.
Emma Huke, 25, and Kendall Fortner, 24, were named as aircraft by their employer Sound Talent Group.
“Fortner is the party life that ignited any room she entered,” the company said in a statement Friday.
Huke is “a beautiful soul that brings joy and light to everyone before her.”
The company earlier confirmed the death of its co-founder, famous music agent Dave Shapiro. Shapiro has worked with rock bands including 41-year-old rock band, Story of the Year, Parkway and singer Vanessa Carlton.
According to his airline Speed Aviation, he is also an avid pilot and certified flight instructor with 15 years of experience.
The group confirmed in a tribute posted online that former devil dressed in Prada drummer Daniel Williams was also killed.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, he posted an image on Instagram hours before the crash, Shapiro was sitting in the cockpit of the plane.
Williams was a founding member of Devil Wears Prada and part of the Christian Metal band for over 10 years before splitting in 2016.
The band posted a series of photos of Williams on Instagram, showing him drum sticks, flying on planes, and flying with other band members.
