Satellite image shows earthquake damage in Myanmar

Myanmar’s military government said at least 2,000 people were killed in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit last Friday.

“It is very likely that deaths exceed 10,000,” the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The Myanmar army had previously downplayed civilian casualties after other major natural disasters, but did not allow foreign journalists to enter the country.

From neighbouring Thailand, the BBC-verified Nick Beake has been building the impact of the earthquake in the worst affected areas we know.
