Police said several people suffered life-threatening injuries during a knife attack at the German city of Hamburg.
The city’s fire department said 12 people were injured in the attack, but police later said there were no reliable victim numbers.
Hamburg police said police arrested a 39-year-old woman and were undertaking major operations.
It is understood that on Friday, at about 18:00 local time (16:00), the attack occurred at the city’s central station.
A spokesman for the Hamburg Fire Department told AFP that 12 people were injured, some of whom were threatening lives.
Hamburg police said in an article on X that there is no reliable number of injured people, but some have suffered life-threatening injuries.
“According to preliminary findings, one person allegedly injured several people with a knife at the main station,” the police said.
Police later added that they believed the suspect was acting alone.
Local media reported that the attack occurred near platforms 13 and 14 – accessible via busy main roads – on one of the platforms.
Some victims were reportedly treated in the train.
Deutsche Bahn, a German railway operator, said four platforms at the station have been closed and some services will experience delays and transfers.
Images at the scene show many emergency service personnel and vehicles on the ground, as well as barriers that seem to hide injured from public view.
