This is not the first time FATWAS is used to incite violence.
The most notorious case was the 1989 decree against author Salman Rushdie, whose novel The Satanic Verses was released, which many Muslims thought was offensive. Fatwa forced Rushdie to hide, resulting in the murder of Japanese translation and carried out multiple attacks on the publisher of the book. Rushdie lost his eyes after he survived multiple assassination attempts, including a stabbing attack in upstate New York in 2023.
