Summary

  • Sterling Ruby presents two landmark works involving materiality
  • The exhibition will last until September 28

Le CorbusierThe towering housing complex is not easy to miss out on the s la Cité Radieuse (Radiant City) in Marseille, France, which contains a bunch of primary color constellations painted on the exterior walls of 337 living units. This 20th-century building is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is touted as a spectacular example of barbaric architecture or a “crazy house” for locals’ bills. Located above the complex is Oraïto’s Mamo, a modern art center hosted by artists around the world, the current exhibition of groundbreaking American artists and hosted by groundbreaking American artists Stirling Ruby.

Ruby installed two landmark works in Oraïto’s part of his presentation of the same name in Mamo. The first commemorative work is a sculpture called “Double Candles” made of two bronze forms that are seven meters tall. The sculpture has a green-blue bronze color, with its oxidized composition similar to the aging appearance of a free body. The second “wall” in 2017 is the artist’s largest spray paint, with a width of more than 7 meters and consists of layered bands, lines and drips of scattered colors. Both works aim to inspire dialogue on the stratified history of UNESCO sites, while Marseille is the Mediterranean port “shaped by movement, memory and reshaping”.

Although Le Corbusier’s color orientation is designed to trigger emotions, Ruby’s work is designed to face the structural elements of architecture with his visceral works that seriously touch on material transformation and the relationship between humans and the built environment. “The artist’s sensitivity to color resonates here, and his patinas and atmosphere have a visual conversation with Le Corbusier’s color theory and multi-tone architecture, where colors are used as spatial and emotional tools,” according to the news report. ”
