Stevenson: Crawford’s power will overwhelm Canelo, I’ve said it

Shakur Stevenson said he had always believed Terence Crawford could beat Canelo Alvarez even a few years ago at Dmitry Bivol. Stevenson said he watched Crawford hurt the heavyweight and he didn’t believe Canelo could walk forward with his own strength.

Stevenson said he is beginning to believe Crawford will defeat Canelo in 2021 when fighting the welterweight Shakur Porter. He believed that Porter, who was 34, was a good scale for the three departments that predicted Crawford’s performance.

Loyalty and logic

Crawford, 37, will challenge Canelo’s belt on September 13 on 168. Despite the weight gain in both departments, Shakur does not think it is a problem. He said he thought Crawford had been the best fighter in the super middleweight class for years.

WBC lightweight champion Stevenson said Crawford (41-0, 31 Kos) raised both divisions from 154 to 168 to challenge Unified champion Canelo (62-2-2, 38 KO).

“I have been knocking out Crawford since he fought Shawn Porter (in the welterweight category in 2021). I said Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez immediately after the fight Ring Magazinehe revealed that he had predicted Terence Crawford would beat Canelo four years ago.

It is reasonable to assume that Shakur’s view of Canelo-Crawford’s battle is influenced by his close friendship with Bud and his loyalty to him. That’s natural. He obviously hoped to see Crawford get the opportunity without making money like other fighters.

Heavyweight proposition

“I felt it in that weight class (168), Terence Crawford is the greatest. “I just felt the style of Canelo, which was before (Dmitry) Bivol did it. I felt Terence Crawford was the only one who could beat Canelo in his style.

“I kept saying that, even before Bud spoke. Bud was the South Claw. He was the South Claw, making Canelo even more difficult.” Shaku continued to praise Crawford. “He had problems with them after I watched him fight John Ryder. He wasn’t that good. It’s just that Canelo was fighting Southpaw.

“How can Canelo handle the power of the bud? When Bud hits him, he just wants to go forward and just fist? I just don’t know. I saw the bud hurt the heavyweight,” Shakur said.

If Shakur thinks Crawford has been the best fighter for 168 for years, why didn’t he move to test himself? He could have done it a few years ago and made a lot of money than the welterweight. Crawford’s only big fight in 147 was Errol Spence. As Shakur insists, if he can beat all the super middleweight years, why don’t he do that?

Crawford punched Israel Madrimov in his last battle of 154, and he was barely close to the heavyweight division. If he has the power to hurt heavyweights, he should make a statement about Madrimov.
