Richardson Hitchins said he believes Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. had a 60-40 or 50-50 fight in 12 rounds of the Times Square in New York on May 2. Hitchens felt that Teo was talented and athletic for him, but it was not the strategic nature of Barboza Jr.
TEO: Unstable?
He doesn’t fight with such a great game plan as Barboza Jr., and sometimes he gets mentally broken when dealing with adversity. We see, in Lopez’s battle with George Kambosos Jr., Sandor Martin and Jamaine Ortiz. In those games, he was like a complete basket. He is great when things go well, but when his opponent starts to succeed, when he gets out.
Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOS) will be on the card against the WBO Light middleweight title of unbeaten Barboza Jr. (32-0, 11 KOS) and in October against IBF 147-pound champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Ennis. Losing to Barboza Jr. may result in Teofimo not getting the boots to fight, but it may be good for Hitchins. If Lopez loses to Barboza Jr, he might be the Plan B option used by Turki Alalshikh.
Turki Alalshikh today hinted that the fight between Teo, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney on the May 2 card will determine how he will perform against them in October. In other words, they won for the battle he planned. It puts a lot of pressure on each of them, but especially for Lopez, who is the least likely to deal with the pressures of Ryan and Hanney.
I think it’s a 60-40 or 50-50 battle. TEO or 50-50’s 60-40. ” Richardson Hitchins said Matching room boxingTalk about Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. in New York City on May 2. “Barboza is not flashy. He is a kind of ordinary, but he does have good timing and has a lot of experience.
“I looked at him and I thought, ‘He’s solid.’ Barboza is solid. I was impressed by the way he beat Jack Catterall because he had the style to make anyone look bad. Barboza comes with the right game plan. So he’s a guy with a strong game plan and I think Teofimo relies more on his talent and athleticism.
“I don’t think he’s a strategic guy. I think Barboza always wants a fight because they’re ranked very high. I think Teofimo is fighting,” Hitchens said.
“I think he’s definitely for the fight. This is where I won’t be surprised. It’s a really good fight,” ring announcer David Diamante said of Teofimo vs. Barboza Jr. Clash. “It’s very competitive.”
