Billy Gene’s owners and employees are cooking Hill Country favorites for men and women in the community as first responders work hard to tease out the debris and destruction.
“We’re just starting out on the day that happened,” Crystal Smith, who owns Billy Gene with her husband, told Fox News Digital. “We know they’re coming out, we know they’re going to be working 24/7, so that’s how we can help the community.”
Smith praised the men and women who arrived in the area for “to help our little slices” and suffered devastating floods over the weekend.

“Everyone is very grateful for it coming in, they want a home-cooked meal. People keep giving us hugs, these hugs come in and say ‘Thank you.’. We are really people who deserve to be thankful and we thank them,” she said.

The restaurant was founded by her in-laws about 30 years ago, when they decided to retire 10 years ago, Crystal and Ty Smith took over. Apparently, this is a local favorite as it has been named the best all-around food in Kerrville over the past decade and has been selected as the best chicken fried steak since 2007.
When asked about the community not only helping each other, but being the first responders, Smith said it was part of the Texas “spirit.”
“We put on our boots and started working. That’s what we work on the hills, that’s what we do in Texas. That’s who we are, that’s what we are, that’s what we are.”
After the spotlight continues to move forward
Janyce Karcher, born and raised in Kerrville, Texas, was waiting for her husband (retired firefighter) to talk to Fox News Digital while meeting at Billy Gene’s.
“It’s much worse than what we’ve experienced in Kerrville’s life,” Keker said. “Even flood Back in 1978 we had nearly 20 inches of rain, but there was no damage, and we couldn’t see the damage we saw here today. ”
Karcher believes Kerrville will suffer disaster through its “closely connected community.”
“We are the strongest guys in Kerrville. We will overcome that,” Keker told Fox News Numbers.

Smith is no stranger to the destruction of the flood. She showed Fox News digital fragments behind the restaurant, which included a picnic table that, despite the landing position being upright, said she said that despite the flooding, she said that she did not before the flooding. Smith said they are trying to sort the items in the debris to return them to legal owners.
Although Billy Gene was not damaged in the flood, one staff member lost everything. Billy Gene’s offers accommodation and a place to pay for food for employees and her husband, she said.
