Strange things live in the depths of the ocean.
Even the light of the sun cannot penetrate into the ink darkness below. The water pressure above holds. Yet life will survive somehow, adapted to this strange world.
Many of the fish are partially luminescent to attract prey. They are all -powerful that at these depths balance the lack of food by having a large mouth, sharp teeth and desire Eat almost anything.
He is a world alien for our own, rarely seen with creatures seen by human eyes.
But now at least one fearsome fish from depth has made a surprising look much closer to the surface where it was seen and filmed at the end of last month.
At the surface, the Black Anglerfish Black Seadevil, about 2,000 meters from the Tenerife coast on the Canary Islands, which are part of Spain, scientists with the Tenerife Condik, a group that normally examines sharks.
This fish with a “devil” in its name is no friendly guppy or koi. It is black as the depths in which they usually live. His teeth look like razor. It seems that his eyes are staring forward without a lid, they have an uncomfortable cruelty. His mouth, constantly open, honestly looks as if she wanted to swallow you and everything you hold expensive.
One positive for nerve swimmers planning a trip to the Canary Islands: the fish is only about six inches. It also has a less scary alternative name: Humpback Anglerfish.
And why does this guy look so unusual? The Deep Sea is a “very different environment than surface water,” said Ben Frable, head of the collection of marine vertebrates at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in South California. “The organisms that live there are very uniquely adapted and look very different for us.”
The ultrablack body of the fish is for camouflage in the deep ocean. “Many organisms produce light – shining as lightning errors,” Frable said. “You don’t want to advertise.”
Thanks to the rare meal, these fish do not know when they get additional meals. “They’re not great swimmers,” said Mr. Frable. “Rather like a spider on the web: waiting for something to come to them.”
From Seadevil said, “It is largely developed as a giant head.”
Condrik Tenerife attributed the discovery of Laia Valor, a marine biologist. He told the Spanish newspaper Mark The fact that his team watched fish for several hours, but that fish that usually live about 200 to 2,000 meters deep have been injured and survived.
“It was like a dream come true,” David Jar Boguñá, a photographer in a group, said National Geographic. “When I was a child, I had a book with some deep creatures and I loved illustrations.” They were crazy for me. Animals did not look real. ”
Mr. Frable, who was not involved in the discovery, described the finding as “is not shocking, but certainly unusual. It is amazing that they were able to capture it on the film. ”
Why was it so far beyond its natural habitat? Was it lost, curious or something more worrying?
Scientists Condrik Tenerife speculated that fish roaming could have arisen from illness, unusual stream or his escape from the predator.
“Many things could happen,” Mr. Frable said. “The animal could have been in need or randomly elaborated into shallow water or was persecuted by a predator.” He said in the video the fish appeared stressed, sick or injured.
Where Anglerfish normally lives, it is not very well lit and is very likely that the shallower water is practically blind.
Many of them are undoubtedly not retroactively out of the frightening fish seen in the video. But Mr. Frable has a request.
“They live in a very different environment; They will look strange, ”he said. “But they’re not terrible or terrible.”
“People don’t see them as valuable for protection, like a panda bear,” he lamented.
