On weekends, 14 master’s students are studying fashion AntwerpThe Royal Academy of Fine Arts demonstrates their last year collection through a series of installations and runway performances. For beginners, Royal Academy is one of the few major fashion schools that nurtures famous everyone Antewei 6 (Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemester, etc., and by chance the subject of a large exhibition held by the city at the city’s outstanding Momu Fashion Museum in early 2026), to the nearest Demna. Here, if you are lucky, you will have a glimpse of the future.
This is not the first time I have been to an outside jury to judge their work. I did it first in 2010. ((I remind me on this year’s show night, it was one of my judges, Belgian model and jeweler Anouck Lepere, who cheered the 2025 group. everything Has changed. Every job that takes place is struggling to deal with what’s going on, but students are also ready to enter the industry in a time of catastrophic change. In a sense, they feel weighted by their expectations of how to conceive and bring new innovative ideas to fashion:Destructiveas we once said, although the industry norms are challenged from the outside. They have many shoulders.
Then see how to view Royal AcademyThe 2025 class responded to this. A considerable number of people create profound personal collections that communicate with their own life experiences. Perhaps this is not surprising in the age of self-storytelling on social media. You are your own best inspiration. Also interesting is: the 2025 class is the first person to pass the back plate. The severeness of the pandemic and the world now in general, they avoided open political narratives (as one might expect, considering the painful world climate) in favor of topics that might be considered more rash. A superficial and pretentious examination of some designers is actually a starting point. By the way, this is not criticism. When everything feels overwhelming, perhaps the natural reaction is to find some joy and lightness during difficult times.
With 14 very different perspectives, finding some common ground is not easy. But I like it’s an ambitious sense of architecture and decoration in general. Trends may be somewhat reduced, but some common themes prevail: dramatic conceptual quantity; interactions between the exterior and internal manufacturing of clothes; corsets and wiring; shirts, shirts and sweaters as creative expressions of vehicles; many colors; and, the shoes are exaggerated, cartoon-like proportions. But everyone, as you will find out among the 14 students below, each has their own story to tell. Oh, and finally: Congratulations to everyone!
