Since the scene has appeared, Doechii has been known for her eclectic style, just like her viral interests – from Thom Browne at the Grammys to cool-girl miu miu at the BET Awards. But for the rapper and singer debut Glastonbury Appearance, seeing her headlines on Saturday night, only one designer fits in the bill: Vivienne Westwood.
“It’s this iconic British festival, so we really want to use the iconic British brand,” Doechii-born stylist Sam Woolf told Fashion via Bristol’s phone call (“I don’t know where that is!”). “We’re both like, Vivienne Westwood is a not-smart person – she’s always been the brand that (doechii) has been loved.”
To open the show, the couple (talking every day” were willing to convey the idea of “Doechii’s hip-hop school,” the theme of her Glastonbury suit, where the singer came on stage with classmates (i.e., supporting her support dancers, who also wore Vivienne Westwood, were also ready for class). “Essentially, Doechii is going to hip-hop school, and we’ve done it in a prep, fun and sexy way,” Woolf said of the singer’s Taltan miniskirt. “It’s about personality; expressing yourself – every dancer looks different.”
Of course, if there is no change of clothes once or twice, it is not Glastonbury Kate MossVivienne Westwood’s Stripe Mini Mini Shop in the 1994 Spring Cafe Association series has teamed up with Bralette, which includes the Nipples pie of Volkswagen Beads (Moss famously photographed nude on the runway). “It doesn’t do much,” Woolf smiled at the lack of bust support provided by the work. “We want to tilt this sexy siren girl.”
Another 90s super character inspired the final look: Naomi Campbellespecially the striped tops and matching pants she also wore on the spring 1994 track. “We really wanted to do some cool preparations, but still sexy,” Woolf explained. “It’s not like, ‘oh, that’s the iconic look of Naomi-Wed’, it’s more like, if you know Vivienne Westwood and its history as you know.”
For Doechii’s worthy farm debut, what better to pay tribute to the two of the most famous fashion outlets in the UK? “We think this is the perfect time to quote Kate and Naomi,” Woolf said. “Obviously, Kate is a reference and fashion icon like Glastonbury.” Who knows, maybe Superman is even seen from the VIP area, after 30 years of her fame, she went on the runway and licked a big wine glass.
