David Morrell DAZN PPV in Queens, New York.
Although this is not a world champion elimination, there are still many dangers for the two fighters, especially Morel (11-1, 9 KOS), who are losing losses and unable to suffer another game. Morrell’s losses will force him to make difficult decisions about his career.
Unification champion Dmitry Bivol may ignore and avoid the winner of this battle. However, when they are stripped one by one from the bivol, they will have the ability to pick up the belt.
Morrell Ranking #2 WBA, #2 WBC, #3 WBO and #8 ring. He has athleticism and technical skills to beat some of the things fans labeled “The Next Betbiff”. If something doesn’t work, he will have to figure out the right game plan and adapt.
Katav’s Strength and Weakness
In Morrell’s 12-round decision against David Benavidez last February, he waited too long to adapt and lagged behind making up for the lost ground. Khataev (10-0, 9 KO) is better than Benavidez and is as aggressive as him. What he lacks is speed, endurance and mobility. This is something that young fighter 27-year-old Morrell can take advantage of.
In the training clip, Morel is seen bounce around the ring, similar to British fighter Ben Whittaker, the boxer Khataev lost to in the 2020 Olympic final. Whittaker makes it difficult for Khataev to land multiple fists in any order and removes his power.
Morrell showed in the last battle that he had the ability to post and defeat Khataev by working with him. If Morel is willing to fight him, he has offensive armaments to put him on and knock him down.
In Khataev’s final battle with Tour driver Durval Elias Palacio, he was merged and bombarded in the late stages of the battle. There is a sequence where Palacio tagged Khataev with an eight-stroke combination of fast-firing, and each shot was almost knocked out after marking Khataev. Khataev looked bad, his eyes were raised and his face was wearing the heavy leather he had photographed.
If Morrell and Khataev know more about American fans, their fight will likely be higher on the July 12 card, as it promises more entertaining than the two battles in front of them.
