We’ve been talking about the Adidas Samba shoe for years now – a style that has taken over the fashion world and continues to grow in popularity. I’ve collected my signature striped gum-soled sneakers in multiple colors and they remain a mainstay in my wardrobe whether I’m on a plane or strolling around New York City. As much as I’m interested in sneakers, I’m always interested in adding new styles to my wardrobe. It turns out that 2025 may be a turning point and my sneaker wardrobe will continue to expand as new trends arrive.
The runway shows, celebrity looks, street style scenes, and outfits on my social media feeds are already showing that sneaker trends are starting to shift this year. Some are pure fashion pieces, often suitable for low-key weekend looks. Some shoes are almost exclusively used for exercise purposes, including technical running shoes that are replacing them. Others take a hybrid approach, blending fashion and function. Ahead, take a look at the top sneaker trends you need to know about in 2025.
Retro track sneakers
Seventies style sneakers are once again taking over the fashion world. This time, however, I saw the usual proliferation of styles in track and field. I predict they will be a big hit in the coming year and make a splash in the street style world during fashion month.
technical running shoes
High-tech sneakers designed for intense fitness training remain in huge demand both inside and outside the gym. While these sneakers have been a favorite among the fashion crowd for seasons, some popular styles from brands like Asics and New Balance are finally back in stock, which means now is the time to add a pair to your wardrobe.
retro sneakers
The appeal of retro sneakers will continue into 2025. Popular models like the Puma Speedcat became the talk of the town. The same goes for Loewe’s Flow sneakers, a modern take on retro sneakers that incorporate design elements from the ’70s and ’80s.

On the runway and on my social media, I’ve noticed an increase in clean and classic sneakers. They typically feature a rubber sole and canvas or leather upper, then come in white with navy or black trim. These timeless sneakers will always be in style.

Instead of opting for nylon, leather or canvas, opt for sneakers with a soft suede design. Miu Miu’s popular styles are almost always sold out. I’m also betting that the adidas Country Sneakers will be one of the coolest purchases of the year.
