AST Space In April 2023, the first two-way phone was completed on an unmodified phone via space, setting a historical record. This milestone was achieved using its low-Earth Orbit satellite, Blue Walker 3 (BW3), which was launched on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in September 2022.

AST Spacemobile has established strategic partnerships with major telecom companies around the world. In the United States, it works with AT&T and Verizon. Internationally, it works with Bell Canada, Lacuten, Vodafone and other telecommunications providers. These partnerships have the potential to bring about 2.8 billion people around the world into its satellite network.

Technology and manufacturing
AST Spacemobile’s satellite connection method is uniquely innovative. It only focuses on direct to the electric ball service, distinguishing it from other competitors. The current Bluebird satellite has deployed about 700 square feet in space, with future satellite plans three times larger and providing ten times more data capacity. Impressively, 95% of its manufacturing process is completed in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Potential challenges
Despite the promising technology, the company faces several challenges. The brightness of satellites like BW3 may interfere with astronomical observations. There are concerns that it may interfere with the radio Quiet area used for scientific research. The increase in the number of satellites has also led to a growing problem of space debris.

Cost and availability
As of January 2025, AST Spacemobile has not announced specific pricing for its services. However, given its partnership with major operators such as AT&T and Verizon, the service may be available as an add-on to existing cellular programs. The company aims to provide coverage to remote areas and eliminate dead zones, suggesting that pricing may be competitive to attract a wide user base.
