Tinder to require new users in California to use facial recognition tech to verify their profiles

Tinder requires new users in California to use facial recognition technology to control their profiles, Axios reported Monday. The new “face control” feature aims to reduce accent in the data app and make sure people are not connected to bots or fake accounts.

Face check requires users to take a short video when you sign the application. The scan confirms that the person is real, controls whether their face matches their profile photos, and also detects whether the same face is used through multiple accounts, Axios reports.

The user will receive a photo controlled badge on their profile if they pass the check. Tinder said it would then remove the Selfie video, but will store an encrypted face map to help display duplicate profiles in the future, the report said.

A face check is already used in Colombia and Canada.

It is worth mentioning that facial control is different from ID -Control On Tinder, which is used to control age and identity by a government issued ID.
