The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said in a grant notice released last week that DC’s urban security fund will receive $25.2 million, a 44% decrease from the previous year.
The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees FEMA, said Friday it cuts funds to multiple cities to align with the “current threat landscape.” Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Jersey City also cut security funds, but DC’s decline was the largest in any urban area that received funding from the program in the last fiscal year.
DHS “observes the transition from large, coordinated attacks such as 9/11 to simpler small-scale attacks, increasing the vulnerability of soft targets and crowded spaces in urban areas”.

FEMA has $553.5 million to support cities across the United States to improve security. It is unclear how much of the total security budget for the national capital region comes from the plan.

He continued: “If DC doesn’t put its actions together as soon as possible, we have no choice but to take control of the city and run how the city should work and take the criminals to notice that they will no longer escape it.” “Maybe it should have been done a long time ago, then this incredible young man, and many others, doesn’t have to go through the horror of violent crime.”
